Notify Schools
If you have school-age children, you won’t want to forget to inform school about your move. Be sure to fill out any necessary paperwork so they know when and where you’re relocating.
Remember Your Keys
It may seem straightforward, but don’t forget your keys! Be sure to stow them somewhere safe and memorable during your move.
Color Code
Color coding will save you time, money and hassle — we recommend using colored labels to organize your boxes based on the room they’ll be going into.
Make Arrangements for Childcare + Pets
Again, if you have younger children and pets, arranging someone to watch them is a must. Do this well before your move date.
Pack an Overnight Bag
Packing an overnight essentials bag for your first night is critical. Click here to see how – and why – to pack an overnight bag.
Turn on utilities
No one wants to move into a new space only to remember that they forgot to call their utility provider. Make sure you have working water, electricity, gas and internet upon moving in.
Keep tools handy
It’s easy to forget a toolbox — but trust us, you’ll need one. At the very least, pack and keep handy a hammer, screwdriver and tape measure, along with any small hardware (such as nails, hooks and screws), you might use.
Pack a Parts Box
When packing up your old place, create a designated “parts box” for cords, screws and other small items that could prove essential later on.
Buy Toilet Paper
Yes, it seems obvious, but toilet paper is something you really won’t want to forget.
Bring Chargers and Charging Cords
Make sure to pack any electronic chargers and cords, keeping them accessible to you. Consider putting them in your first night bag so they’re easy to locate.
